The brand takes its name from an ancient quarter of the old Principality of Salerno, so-called after the long beards sported by Longobard warriors who settled in the city in the 7th century AD.
It was here that in the early 1900s Cesare Marzullo began producing and selling high quality textile articles. Today, the third generation carries on the family’s tailoring tradition with an unaltered passion for excellence.
“Barbuti” collection labels feature a seahorse, long considered a good luck charm par excellence: wearing its image was considered auspicious, and it can be found painted on the outside walls of many houses in Pompeii to attract good fortune.
